20 Years & Counting
Today my first biological child turned 20 years old. 20 years ago, I had no idea that as he exited his teens the world would be this way. Maybe I was naive to think the world would get better, but I did. I thought there would be more good things and instead I find myself hollowed out by the truths exposed each new day. I remind myself that I do believe each of us chose this time to incarnate and that we are made for this, but damn, it’s really hard to parent young adults in a world I literally don’t recognize. So, I have to let go. The hardest part of raising kids is the letting go parts and trusting them to make their lives their own. Letting go of expectations you had for them and in this case, the world and embrace the strength they carry.
As we approach the lunar new year, which is the Aquarius new moon and a solar eclipse, the astrology of 2026 really begins to unfold. Leaving behind the year of the Wood Snake (finally!) I’m looking forward to the Fire Horse and the creative ambition it brings. We’ve spent this last year shedding old ideals, searching for truth, grieving what we thought was real and watching our country become incredibly divided. The hopeful part of where we find ourselves now as Saturn and Neptune collide in Aries in the coming days, is the opportunity we have to start something new. The cycles of life, death and rebirth are unfolding before our very eyes and yes, it’s painful but the Band-Aids we’ve been using to cover our wounds for the past 250 plus years have only allowed them to fester. It’s time to be honest and change the things we’ve pretended didn’t exist.
As the anniversary of the day, I gave birth for the first time closes I find myself feeling much the same I did 20 years ago. Scared and unsure of what is coming next and excited at the possibilities and finding joy in the life I helped create. The road ahead is unknown and that is ok. Sometimes you just gotta get behind the wheel and start moving.
Happy birthday to my 20-year-old Aquarian. It’s your time to shine, a time when thinking outside the norm will be celebrated and, in fact, will change things for humanity. I can’t wait to see the places you will go.
