Once in a Blue Moon
The Sagittarius full moon is a wee bit restless
May’s Blue Moon in Sagittarius happens at 1:44AM PDT at 9°. Blue moons are powerful; they are the 2nd full moon in a single month and only occur every 2.5 to 3 years. This one comes to us in Gemini season and is in the sign of Sagittarius. Freedom loving and adventure seeking Sagittarius brings a desire for knowledge and unlike his polar opposite Gemini rises above the details where Gemini can get caught up in its curiosity. Sagittarius is our mutable fire sign and ruled by Jupiter, so they are adaptable and believe there is good to be had. Represented by the centaur with his bow and arrow, Sagittarius takes aim and believes fully that they will hit their mark. Intentions set now do not have to be mundane or easy to track, the path is never straight, and a detour can bring adventure on the winding road to a goal.
This full moon taps into our inner knowing and with the Sun making a sextile to Saturn. An awareness of our responsibilities and guardrails that keep us on track with our “purpose”. I put purpose in quotes here because I don’t believe we only have one true purpose in this life. We have priorities that shift and transform as we evolve individually and as a species. What is important to us now is probably quite different from what it was five years ago and will mostly become something new in the future. Life is cyclical like the seasons and as long as we are learning and growing there is no one purpose, maybe a clear calling but maybe not. Sagittarius encourages us to be okay with where we are, knowing we are still on a journey. Sagittarius imparts the wisdom of living. Oh, and please have some fun on the way!
If the Sun is sextile Saturn, the Moon is making a trine with the planet of restriction. Allowing clarity regarding our emotions, especially around important things you may have been waffling on. Both the Sun and the Moon are making these same aspects with Neptune, the planet of idealism, illusion and spirituality. A softening of the heart and visions of what “could be” comes with Neptune. Luckily, Saturn hanging out with Neptune can help keep us realistic too.
As I write this, I’m really feeling the restlessness of this full moon. Uranus, the planet of revolution and shall we say chaos is opposing the Moon and it’s a bit unhinged. Impulsive and intense, there is a feeling of jumping ahead on things that could probably use a little more logical thought. This may be personal because my youngest son is absolutely testing my husband and me right now with some BS that can only be described as AUDACITY! And audacity does seem to be a theme leading up to this lunation. Gemini is communication and personal interaction and more than once (probably more like 100 times) I’ve thought to myself “The audacity” when interacting with my fellow humans whether at work, driving or at home where I try very hard to keep a calm space. Shoot, even the weather has been erratic with storms blowing through and lightning and thunder giving us a show. I guess we all need a reminder of what we can and cannot control right now, and Mother Nature is not messing around. Our inner and outer worlds are definitely feeling restless, maybe even a little singed and windblown. The energy is high and its feral. Adding that Jupiter, the ruler of the full moon, is in his exalted home of Cancer; everything feels a little bigger than maybe it is.
Jupiter does bring in abundance, and he also amplifies that joyful sense of adventure and fun Sagittarius is known for. Restless and a wee bit unhinged may be the prevalent vibe with this full moon, but so are feelings of positivity. That inner knowing that regardless, things will all work out, and I’m going to focus on that over the course of this full moon, and my hope is you do too!
Please keep in mind that all this energy is affecting our bodies as well. Simplified, Gemini rules the upper lungs, shoulders, arms, and hands. Gemini also rules a large part of the nervous system. The Mercury ruled, mutable air sign is always firing those synapses, and the areas Gemini rules are key areas for holding stress and needing a reset.
Sagittarius rules the hips, thigh bones, hip sockets, upper leg muscles and voluntary nervous system (again this is very simplified). We carry stored emotions in our hips and when not well tended to we can develop issues with them as we age. Our sciatic nerve is also ruled by Sagitarrius. A focus on hip exercises, gentle yoga poses and even chakra meditation and work can help alleviate stored tension (emotions) in our hips. At the very least check in with your body this full moon and be gentle with yourself. Full moons are a time to release things into the world. Releasing the stored-up stuff in our bodies that we don’t need or may be causing harm falls into the category of stuff to let go of!
May this full (Blue) moon in Sagittarius bring you abundance, inspiration and the ability to rise above the weeds of life to see the possibilities yet to take form. May your aim be spot on as you loose your arrow toward the sky, my friends!
